The Role
UVM seeks a mid-to-senior level System Engineer to join our Endpoint Management Team, to build a secure virtualized computing environment from the ground up. Use VDI and information security foundations to create a research-focused enclave that adheres to NIST 800-171 federal standards. Work with the latest endpoint management and virtualization technologies while supporting security-focused initiatives in a fast-paced, 24x7 data center environment. Ideal candidates would have expertise with both VDI and security frameworks, but UVM would be willing to train if you have significant experience in one area. Advanced skills with client management, scripting, logging and alerting are desirable.

Minimum Qualifications



  • Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) expertise, ideally VMware Horizon.

  • Expert knowledge of one or more client operating systems.

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or related field and five years of systems
    administration and scripting experience in a large-scale, complex Microsoft server
    environment. Four additional years of experience can substitute for the degree.

  • Expertise with Windows server environments and demonstrated ability to manage integrated services in a highly available environment.

  • Experience with scripting, including shell (sh/bash/zsh), PowerShell, or Python.

  • Configuration management, system and network debugging experience.
  • Effective troubleshooting skills.

  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.


    Desirable Qualifications



  • Experience with implementation and management of NSPM-33 requirements and security standards (such as NIST 800-171).

  • Understanding of or background in information security federal regulation.

  • Experience with Endpoint Detection and Response tools.

  • Experience administering Microsoft 365 services.

  • Experience with directory services (LDAP/AD/Entra) and thorough knowledge of client management platforms such as Microsoft Group Policy, Intune, or Jamf Pro.

  • Previous history of running complex managed workstation environments successfully.

  • Experience with application virtualization technologies.

  • Experience working at an academic institution.
