Position: Service and Repair Technician |
Description: JOB SUMMARY:
Under the guidance of the service manager(s), service and repair various types of hydraulic components and systems including but not limited to pumps, motors, directional valves, proportional valves, and cylinders. Also performs service calls at a customer's facility to troubleshoot hydraulic systems, electrical systems and components using various types of diagnostic equipment.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Inspect and Repair Hydraulic Systems and Components
- Inspect components such as complete systems, pumps, valves, motors, electrical equipment, and cylinders sent in by a customer to be repaired.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot problems using electrical and hydraulic schematics when applicable.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot problems with electronic controls, both analog and digital when applicable.
- Provide a detailed failure analysis along with pictures when possible.
- Provide a list of components and services needed to complete the repair.
- After the repair is approved by the customer, cleaning, lapping, polishing and other various duties to prepare the component for assembly.
- Complete assembly of the component to factory specifications when applicable.
- Testing of the repaired component to factory specifications utilizing various test stands, meters, gauges, and data acquisition equipment when applicable.
- Provide test data in various forms including test sheets and graphs.
Service Calls
- Secure equipment, information, supplies, and tools deemed necessary to complete the customer's requested scope of work.
- Track and record travel time to and from customer's facility as well as time spent at customer's facility.
- Drive company service vehicle to customer's facility.
- Diagnose/troubleshoot hydraulic, mechanical, and electrical systems.
- Diagnose/troubleshoot problems using electrical and hydraulic schematics.
- Diagnose/troubleshoot problems with electronic controls, both analog and digital.
- Inspect and repair components at customer's facility when applicable.
- Provide customer with service call report once the service call is completed.
- Debrief and provide service call report to service manager(s).
- Return all tools and unused supplies to storage locations when applicable.
Clerical/General Administrative
- Respond to routine emails, phone calls, etc.
- Make copies, print documents, etc.
- File paperwork

COMPETENCIES:
- Knowledge of hydraulics and pneumatics.
- Ability to read hydraulic and electrical schematics.
- General knowledge of estimating time and materials needed to complete the requested scope of work.
- Ability to move or transfer products with an overhead crane.
- Use of basic hand tools.
- Use of pneumatic tools and power tools.
- Use of a digital voltmeter for the purposes of troubleshooting.
- Use of calipers and other devices for measuring.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Experience
- High school diploma, trade school certificate or General Education Degree (GED).
Licenses/Credentials/Certifications
- Valid Driver's license with no minor moving violations within the most recent 36-month period and no major violations or suspensions in the most recent 60-month period.
PHYSICAL AND MENTAL DEMANDS:
- Frequently required to stand at a workstation for long period of time.
- Ability to lift 50lbs. when required.
- Ability to speak to and hear employees/clients via phone or in person.
- Body motor skills sufficient to enable incumbent to move around a shop environment.
- Use chemicals with PPE, adhesives, solvents, lubricants, epoxies, paints, and inks as required.
- Additional Mental Requirements: compare, decide, problem solve, analyze, and interpret.
The mental and physical requirements described here are representative of those that must be met by an
individual to successfully perform the essential functions of this position.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
- Work hours average 40 per week; may require additional hours including evening and weekends depending on business needs.
- Standard work hours for the service department are Monday through Friday, 7am - 4pm.
- Work typically performed in an indoor shop environment.
Tools and Equipment Used
- Basic hand tools including but not limited to allen wrenches, adjustable wrenches, box end wrenches, screw drivers, hammers, sockets, and ratchet wrenches.
- Power and pneumatic tools including but not limit to angle grinders, die grinders, air drills, air chisels, Impact wrenches, torque multipliers, torches, band saw, electric drill, circular saw, cranes, and forklift.
- Various diagnostic equipment, test stands and test fixtures.
Travel
- Minimal - up to 15% of the time.
