Salary Range: $48.00 - $48.00 Hourly


We are currently seeking a full-time Assistant Health Services Administrator (AHSA) to join our team at Pamunkey Regional Jail located in Hanover, Virginia.

About this position


This position serves as the Assistant Health Services Administrator to ensure the comprehensive compliance and care given within the medical unit at the assigned facility including but not limited to staffing, compliance, coordination of internal/external services, and communicating effectively with the facility staff as well as GENESYS Health Alliance Corporate office.


Education:

  • Requires graduation from a nationally accredited Registered Nursing program

Certifications

  • Current single state and/or multi-state Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of employment or ability to obtain license

  • Current CPR certification



Job Type : Full-time

  • Correctional nursing experience preferred but not required

  • Management experience (preferred)

  • Ability to obtain a security clearance, to include drug screen and criminal background check

General Duties: (not limited to but includes)

  • Acts within state licensing mandates and established scope of practice by the State Board of Nursing and as a role model for other staff



  • Utilizes established GENESYS Health Alliance policies/procedures and correctional policies/procedures in decision-making along with sound, independent judgment in meeting responsibilities and performing duties of the position. Reports any individual violating GENESYS Health Alliance or facility policies.

  • Ensure current knowledge of GENESYS Health Alliance policy and procedures, state/federal laws, state nurse practice acts, NCCHC standards and site operational workflow.

  • Maintains a good working relationship with correctional personnel, nursing staff, contracted providers, outside provider agencies, and corporate office staff

  • Maintains current licensure/certification for professional degree and basic life support-healthcare provider certification

  • Approaches change in a positive manner and motivates other staff members to work as a team.

  • Accepts feedback on performance improvements with the goal of professional growth and development of personal skills

  • Strong interpersonal skills that allow tact and professionalism at all times; Ability to cope with stressors and remain calm; Ability to defuse situations and function as a role model for staff

  • Represents GENESYS Health Alliance in a professional manner with all written and verbal communications, dress, and positive, polite attitude

  • Provide feedback to other staff members regarding compliance issues, professional concerns, and fulfilling assigned duties in a positive, professional manner

  • Completes a yearly written evaluation on all directly supervised staff, and a three (3) month evaluation on new employees who are under direct supervision as directed by Health Services Administrator

  • Prepares accurate and thorough reports requested by the Health Services Administrator. Completes all required reports and forwards within established time frames

  • Assists to ensure adequate staffing at the facility and maintains accurate employee schedule on manager company calendar including edits when changes occur

  • Assists with interviews and employee actions as needed or as directed by Health Service Administrator

  • Fills in as needed during periods of short staffing. Shifts may vary- days, nights, weekends, and holidays. Accept assignments at other locations in the event of emergent situations and assist with start-up facilities as needed

  • Accepts on-call status as scheduled and responds to all calls in a timely manner

  • Assist the Health Service Administrator to review time sheets and forward information needed to justify any OT, absences, leave, etc. Answer any payroll questions in a timely manner to prevent delays in processing payroll

  • Attend/conduct meetings as required (regional training, in-service training, monthly staff meeting, Infection Control, Continuous Quality Improvement, seminars, conferences, etc.)

  • Meets with designated Jail Administration as needed basis; Follow up meetings with confirmation emails/memos/letters of confirmation on items discussed

  • Functions as a liaison between GENESYS Health Alliance and other professional organizations as needed

  • Uses effective problem-solving techniques to identify existing and potential problems. Takes effective action as needed to correct issues identified

  • Directs and promotes employees as a supervisory function in daily workflow of the medical unit

  • Orients and evaluates performance of nursing and clerical staff personnel as assigned

  • Ensure level of patient care is accordance with GENESYS Health Alliance policy and procedure in an organized and proficient manner

  • Ensure clinic routine nursing duties are completed on assigned shifts such as intake processing, medication administration, patient assessment for urgent or routine issues, setting up for provider visits in the clinic setting, assist provider with procedures in clinic, collaborating with custody staff on inmate special needs, medication verification, ordering sup- plies, conducting medical rounds, notifying providers of specific inmate issues, wound care, providing specific patient education, etc.

  • Ensure staff are prepared for provider visits and that patients are transported to medical in a timely manner. Communicates any issues with provider availability, efficiency opportunities and/or needs with facility administration

  • Reviews status of inmates/detainees with serious health problems/high risk conditions ensuring all necessary intervention and treatment is completed

  • Monitors inpatient hospitalizations and ensures early release whenever appropriate

  • Evaluates referrals to outside consultants and ER for necessity of referral and intervenes when necessary related to security issues. Review Prior Approvals (PAs) to prevent delays in care

  • Implements and monitors corrective actions for site issues including documentation of staff education to resolve cited issues

  • Work cooperatively with correctional staff in situations where medical needs of inmate/patient conflict with correctional needs of the facility

  • Monitors all logs as required by GENESYS Health Alliance policy/procedure and ensures weekly submission of all required service logs

  • Reviews required documentation of inmate/detainee encounters for compliance with policy/procedure and scope of practice

  • Monitors strict staff compliance with all applicable pharmacy laws, and monitors all control substance logs

  • Check supply inventory weekly to ensure all supplies are readily available

  • Monitors county email for responses returned in a timely manner and appropriate content

  • Answers personal email accurately and timely

  • Monitors accountability of sharps/tools/narcotics/keys/medications and documents used as required by GENESYS Health Alliance policy/procedure

  • Monitors disposal of sharps, wasted medication, narcotics as required by GENESYS Health Alliance policy/procedure

  • Monitors cleanliness of sites work areas and medical units

  • Maintain security, confidentiality, and privacy for patients and patient's records or private health

  • information.

  • Evaluates and recommends methods of improving operational efficiency and cost effectiveness

  • Ensure physical safety of staff to promote a safe working environment; Report any staff injuries immediately to Director of Nursing/Chief Nursing Officer/Chief Compliance Officer

  • Assist with site preparation for visits from outside reviews/audits/accreditation

  • Identify any errors or potential areas for error opportunity and report to Health Services Administrator

  • Assist with any training requested by supervisor or corporate; Participates in scheduled in- services as assigned by supervisor

  • Appear if subpoenaed or deposition required

  • Assist with program and policy revisions as requested and serve on designated committees as needed

  • Practice safety and accountability within the correctional environment; Follows all Infection control/prevention guidelines

  • Reports any opportunities for improvement/efficiency to supervisor to be forwarded to corporate for consideration

  • Does not engage in negative behaviors, gossip, unethical behaviors, behaviors that conflict with the mission, vision, or goals of GENESYS Health Alliance
