Job Title: Director of Informatics
Department: Acute Care
Reports To: Chief Nursing Officer
Position Summary: The Director of Informatics serves as the liaison between the hospital's clinical areas, information technology department, and the electronic medical record vendor (Cerner Community Works). This includes making recommendations regarding the needs and requirements for clinical applications in Acute and ambulatory healthcare settings, as well as the Clinic and revenue cycle. The Director of Informatics is responsible for project management, implementation, training, and maintenance of the clinical information system. This position serves as a clinically trained professional nurse in the implementation of upgrades of current technology or the implementation of new technology. This position provides staff training and performance improvement of systems implemented/utilized.
Essential Job Functions Duties and Responsibilities
Goal Setting
- Will establish, implement, and monitor SMART (specific, measurable, achievable, realistic, and time-bound) operational performance goals based on industry standards and best practices.
- Works with vendors and management, as appropriate, to negotiate best value purchases and services.
- Maintains up-to-date knowledge of trends and advances in the field of Nursing and Healthcare Informatics.
Knowledge Sharing
- Regularly provides administrative leadership and committees with clear and concise reports regarding progress on implementation of new updates or programs. This includes attending the IT portion of Leadership meetings.
- Ability to efficiently compile, comprehend, and analyze data and have strong decision making capabilities that support departmental and organizational objectives.
- Leads the EHR Steering Team to ensure participation and decision making involves all key stakeholders utilizing the EHR software.
- Communicates, addresses, and provides feedback to staff which may include department meetings, individual employee meetings, huddles, emails, etc.
- Participates in the onboarding of new personnel using all parts of the electronic medical record; including orientation to specific user modules, PDMP enrollment, ePrescribing enrollment if appropriate, and activation of user in the EMR.
Applications Use and Implementation
- Masterfully uses and incorporates effective and efficient use of software applications into operations.
- Oversees planning, implementing and evaluating clinical information systems that are used within the facility for clinical documentation; ensures systems are efficient and the data is complete and compliant with regulations.
- Ensures facility's compliance with regulatory requirements for Reporting Interoperability for both the Critical Access Hospital and Rural Health Clinic environment.
- Ensures facility's success in reporting data for MSSP.
- Successfully submits data to HQR, EIDM and NPG Health Collaborative (MSSP).
- Leads and coordinates clinical information systems and data input and retrieval in the most efficient and effective ways for medical personnel to be able to access data for patient care.
- Assists hospital and clinic staff with building assessments, templates, order sets, and updating EMAR data, etc to ensure all clinical documentation is maintained in electronic health records.
- Coordinates system updates as they relate to clinical departments. This includes reviewing release notes; coordinating setup with IT, implementation & training with affected clinical departments including medical staff; provides assistance to all departments relating to the clinical system issues, updates and changes.
- Evaluates department policies and procedures relating to electronic records.
- Evaluates current information systems and take proactive steps to ensure clinical documentation in electronic systems is industry best practices.
- As provider facilitator, works with provider super users on education sessions to help all medical staff maximize utilization of EHR software.
- Develops reports to enhance and improve the workflow of utilization review, quality improvement, and other departments as needed.

- Demonstrate proper telephone etiquette. If transferring a telephone call, announces the caller and briefly explains the situation before ending the transfer.

- Keeps voice down, does not shout or use improper language. Responds to all inquiries promptly and courteously.

Qualifications:
Education and/or Experience:
- Bachelor's Degree required, Certification or Master's Degree in Clinical Informatics preferred
- Previous experience in EMR implementation, maintenance, and project management
- Previous use of EMRs required
- Previous experience in Cerner Community Works preferred
Certificates, Licensure, Registrations:
- Valid nursing license in the State of Nebraska preferred
- Basic Life Support (BLS) recommended
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) a plus
- Pediatric Advanced Cardiac Life Support (PALS) a plus
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Ability to work cooperatively and communicate effectively to maintain good working relationships with staff, healthcare providers, and patients
- Must be capable of communicating clearly (reading, writing and speaking) in the English Language.
- Must be proficient in the operation of a personal computer with Microsoft Office and the Internet
- Must be capable of reading and comprehending complex healthcare laws and regulations.
- Demonstrates knowledge and use of projector and monitor for WebEx, Zoom, etc meeting.
