POSITION SUMMARY:


The Association Aquatics Director provides leadership to our Association and branches in the areas of aquatics programming, training, and safety. This position acts as a subject matter expert and plays a critical role in the development, implementation, and quality standards of aquatics programing, staff development, and safety.






PROGRAMMING



  • Develop, implement, and maintain an Association-wide centralized swim lesson and aquatics programming model.

  • Manage the change process of program standards and/or best practices for aquatics to ensure consistency and continuous improvement in Aquatics programming across the Association.

  • Audit, supervise, and continuously monitor aquatics program performance.

  • Manage programming for Safety Around Water (SAW) and any aquatics-related grants.

  • Serve as the main contact for RAYS Swim Team.

  • Lead and provide supervision to Aquatic Directors to meet or exceed their aquatic goals.

  • Serve as an Interim Aquatics Director as needed.



TRAINING



  • Develop and maintain new aquatic director orientation.

  • Maintain and supervise operating procedures, safety standards, record keeping, certification requirements, emergency action plans, dashboard audits, training plans, etc.

  • Develop swim lesson, lifeguard, and lifeguard crossover training/certification schedule and plan for the Association in accordance with Association Aquatic Standards.

  • Ensure the association has the appropriate level of qualified trainers to meet the certification and staffing needs of the Association.

  • Administer the Association's aquatic & CPR-Pro/first aid training system.

  • Develop a training and certification budget for the Association and ensure spending is within budget.

  • Attend and support in the development of branch Aquatics In-Services.



SAFETY



  • Ensure Branches are in compliance with Association aquatic standards which reflect Y-USA, American Camping Association (ACA), American Red Cross (ARC), state, federal and local requirements, and/or insurance recommendations.

  • Develop measurement tools for association aquatic and safety standards and best practices, including pool, lifeguard, and emergency responder readiness audits; manage and report on performance metrics for branches through dashboards and/or other communications.

  • Conduct audits of branch pools as needed to ensure safety compliance and best practices are met.

  • Act as subject matter expert and provide critical aquatic & safety information to operations leadership and Human Resources.

  • Establish and maintain effective and collaborative working relationships with other community agencies, including the Health Department and city and county parks, which help to strategically place the YMCA as a critical community partner in aquatic safety.

  • Annually review branch EAP as it related to aquatics programming and pool facilities.

  • Performs any other functions necessary for the smooth and efficient operation of the YMCA of Greater Grand Rapids.

COMPENSATION


$58,000 - $72,000 annually; Full Time, Exempt

Requirements:


QUALIFICATIONS:


Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from a four-year college or university required; 5-7 years of aquatics management and supervision required. Ability to demonstrate aquatic skills required. Ability to react quickly to emergency situations. Must have superior computer, oral and written communication skills and the ability to respond to a wide variety of constituencies (including staff, volunteers, members, community leaders, etc). Ability to interact with people from all ethnic backgrounds, ages, and lifestyles. YMCA experience preferred.







CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATION



  • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) within the first 60 days

  • First Aid Certification required within the first 60 days

  • AED-Oxygen Certification required within the first 60 days

  • Blood Borne Pathogen training

  • State of Michigan criminal background clearance (ICHAT)

  • YMCA Lifeguard Instructor Certification preferred (required upon hire)

  • YMCA Swim Instructor Trainer Certification preferred (required upon hire)

  • Certified Pool Operator certification preferred (required upon hire)

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, sit, and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and color vision.







TRAVEL:


25% of local travel within the state of Michigan; occasional out-of-state travel may be required for educational conferences or training.
