Led by a dynamic ministry team, our congregation has an average attendance of about 130 on Sunday mornings and is located in a desirable area with easy access to the Jersey Shore and the excitement of NYC. We are an intergenerational congregation whose worship services are consistent with the Reformed tradition and our affiliation with the Presbyterian Church (PCUSA).
Position Summary
The Director of Youth & Family Ministries will develop and lead a vibrant, intergenerational ministry at PCCT that empowers the congregation in fulfilling its vision of nurturing faith and community, specifically as it relates to children, youth, and their families.
This position is responsible for providing a variety of mission, fellowship, and educational opportunities that help kids and teens from pre-K through 12th grade engage in the life and ministry of the church, and includes coordinating youth fellowship groups, organizing Sunday morning church school, and leading Vacation Bible School for children and the summer mission trip for grades 9-12.
Position Type: This new position has been envisioned as Full-Time. PCCT is open to exploring the role as a 3/4 time opportunity with the right candidate.
Schedule: 40 hours per week. Sundays required, with evenings/weekends for programs and events. Vacation days and Sundays off will be negotiated as part of the compensation package (see below).
Reporting Lines: The Director of Youth & Family Ministries reports to the Pastor, is accountable to Session through the Personnel Committee, and relates closely with the Christian Education Committee which is responsible for youth and children's programming.
Key Duties And Responsibilities
Program Development & Leadership
- Educational Ministries
- Direct Sunday morning Church School for grades K-8. Develop offerings and activities for middle school youth (grades 5-8) as appropriate.
- Administer and lead the Confirmation Program (typically 9th grade).
- Offer occasional children's messages during worship in coordination with the Pastor.
- Fellowship Ministries
- Plan and lead a midweek dinner fellowship program for children and pre-teens (currently grades K-8), meeting twice monthly.
- Lead the Middle School Youth Fellowship (grades 5-8), including twice-monthly fellowship nights supplemented by occasional offsite special events.
- Develop a High School Youth Group (grades 9-12), providing opportunities for youth leadership and social engagement.
- Annual Programs and Special Events
- Coordinate annual Youth Mission Trip (grades 9+), including logistics, fundraising, and volunteer coordination.
- Organize Vacation Bible School or comparable summer program for pre-K - grade 5 that involves older youth as helpers/leaders.
- Plan and lead the Christmas Eve Children's Service in coordination with relevant staff.
- Assist with the Chatham High School Baccalaureate service.
- Support seasonal events including Welcome Back Sunday, and Egg Hunt on Easter Sunday.
- Family & Intergenerational Engagement
- Plan occasional family events and mission projects.
- Develop milestone celebrations (e.g., Confirmation, Baptism, Communion Preparation, and Third Grade Bible presentation) in collaboration with the Pastor.
- Provide a loving, inclusive, creative, and positive environment for young people across all program areas.
Social Media
- Coordinate PCCT's social media presence on Facebook, Instagram, and other relevant platforms, including strategic planning, posting, content creation, and curation.
- Expand PCCT's visibility on social media platforms by understanding current reach, where to grow, and how to get there.
Volunteer & Administrative Oversight
- Recruit, train, and support volunteers for church school, youth groups, and special events.
- Supervise nursery staff and volunteers, ensuring safety protocols are maintained (background checks, Safe Church compliance, etc.)
- Manage budgets, procure supplies, and maintain event calendars.
Collaboration & Communication
- Collaborate with the Christian Education Committee (CE) on program design, budgeting, and long-term planning.
- Partner with the Children's Music Director as a colleague in ministry, supporting children's music programs and integrating music into program areas where appropriate.
- Develop service opportunities in cooperation with the Mission & Outreach Committee.
- Attend weekly staff meetings and CE Committee meetings.
- Create promotional materials for bulletins, emails, and the church website.
- Provide consistent and timely communication for all program areas, keeping parents and students informed of upcoming events and deadlines.
Qualifications
- Passion for fostering spiritual growth in children, youth, and families.
- Experience in youth/family ministry (volunteer or professional).
- Strong organizational, communication (written and verbal), and leadership skills.
- Ability to work flexibly (Sundays, evenings, and occasional weekends required).
- Alignment with PCUSA/Reformed tradition preferred.
Compensation
- Compensation will be based upon experience, with a range of $58,000 - $65,000 annually.
