Position Overview:

Children s Specialty Group (CSG) at Children's Hospital of The King's Daughters (CHKD) in Norfolk, Virginia is seeking a compassionate, dedicated, and highly skilled Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Nurse Practitioner (NP) to join our team. In this vital role, you will provide exceptional care to pediatric patients with a variety of hematological and oncological conditions, working alongside an interdisciplinary team of specialists to improve patient outcomes and enhance the overall care experience for families.


As a Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Nurse Practitioner at CHKD, you will play a key role in the management, treatment, and follow-up of pediatric patients diagnosed with blood disorders and cancer. This position offers the opportunity to work in a dynamic, supportive environment focused on providing the highest quality of care to children in need.



Responsibilities:



  • Provide direct patient care to pediatric hematology and oncology patients in both inpatient and outpatient settings.

  • Perform comprehensive assessments, including physical examinations, diagnostic testing, and treatment planning.

  • Collaborate with attending physicians, nurses, and other members of the healthcare team to develop and implement individualized care plans.

  • Order and interpret diagnostic tests, manage medications, and provide patient and family education regarding diagnosis, treatment options, and ongoing care needs.

  • Serve as an advocate for patients and families, offering emotional support and guidance throughout treatment processes.

  • Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings, patient rounds, and case discussions.

  • Monitor patients' progress, adjust care plans as necessary, and ensure continuity of care through all stages of treatment.

  • Provide guidance and mentorship to nursing staff and other clinical professionals.

  • Stay current with the latest advancements in pediatric hematology/oncology care through continuing education, research, and professional development.

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records in accordance with hospital policies and regulatory requirements.



Qualifications:



  • Master s or Doctorate degree in Nursing with a focus on Pediatric Nurse Practitioner (PNP) or Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP).

  • Current Nurse Practitioner licensure in the state of Virginia or eligibility for licensure.

  • Pediatric Nurse Practitioner (PNP) certification or Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) from a recognized national certification board.

  • Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) required.

  • Minimum of 2 years of clinical experience in pediatric hematology/oncology or a related field strongly preferred.

  • Strong clinical assessment skills, critical thinking, and the ability to work in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.

  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to build rapport with patients, families, and healthcare professionals.

  • Compassion, empathy, and a patient-centered approach to care.
