Position: Medical Technologist / Medical Lab Technician (Saturday and Sunday, Evenings) |
Description: Medical Technologist (MT)/Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) - Evenings, 3p-11:30p, Weekends only (Saturday and Sunday)
- 32 hours/weekly
Roles and Responsibilities: - Maintain proficiency and perform diagnostic tests in assigned areas of the laboratory including Blood bank, Serology, Coagulation, Urinalysis, Hematology, Chemistry, and Microbiology.
- Perform diagnostic tests in accordance with laboratory procedures and policies.
- Communicate with medical staff and/or office staff as needed and document communications appropriately.
- Receive and process specimens from inpatients and outpatients.
- Evaluate specimens for acceptability for proper testing and investigate problems with unacceptable specimens.
- Ensure test results correlate with patient's available LIS history and investigate delta checks.
- Accurately enter results into the LIS and timely review all manually entered results.
- Communicate all required results to appropriate personnel depending on priority in accordance with lab policy.
- Complete periodic proficiency survey tests and required reports.
- Maintain confidentiality of all patient reports and distribute to authorized personnel.
- Prepare and set up equipment for various tests, assure proper calibration and maintenance.
- Operate within established control parameters for all laboratory tests and maintain quality control data.
- Perform daily, weekly, and monthly maintenance checks on laboratory equipment.
- Troubleshoot instruments, equipment, reagents, and patient specimens when problems occur.
- Practice efficient economical use of laboratory supplies and reagents.
- Stay updated on new developments in the clinical laboratory field and learn and perform new procedures.
- Maintain work area in a neat, clean, and orderly condition at all times.
- Assist in training new personnel, students, and non-technical personnel.
- Adhere to established Laboratory and Hospital policies for Universal Precautions, Chemical Hygiene, and Safety procedures.
Required Skills & Qualifications: Completed internship through an accredited MT or MLT program. - MLT: Associates degree in a chemical, biological, or physical science or medical technology with at least one year of laboratory training or experience.
- MLT: MLT (ASCP); CLT (NCA), ASCP eligible, or equivalent.
- MT: A Bachelor s Degree in Medical Technology or equivalent with up to one year of related work experience.
- MT: Eligible for ASCP certification required.
Preferred: - At least one year of hospital work experience preferred.
- MT/MLS (ASCP), CLS (NCA), or equivalent certification preferred.
