Job Summary The Sewer is responsible for operating power sewing machines to work with leathers, fabrics, and synthetic materials for products requiring high-grade workmanship and quality inspection . This position includes setting up machines, adjusting for material variations, training new operators, and developing sewing patterns for manufacturability. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, experienced with complex sewing techniques, and committed to precision.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate
single or multiple needle power sewing machines for various materials, including leather, vinyl, and cloth .
- Setup standard machine attachments and
adjust pressure foot, stitch count, and thread tension according to material requirements.
- Perform
quality control inspections and make necessary adjustments for accuracy.
- Train
new sewing operators and assist in pilot runs for new product development .
- Participate in
corrective action teams to address sewing-related quality issues.
- Develop
sewing patterns and ensure manufacturability.
- Complete
pack assembly tasks as required.
- Work independently or collaborate with the
engineering team on new product development projects.
- Perform
all sewing tasks within the department to meet production deadlines.
Physical Demands
Reaching - Extending hands and arms in various directions.
Fingering - Handling small components with precision.
Grasping - Applying pressure with fingers and palms.
Sedentary work - Sitting for long periods while operating sewing equipment.
Lifting up to 10 lbs occasionally ; minimal physical exertion required.
Visual acuity required to ensure accuracy, neatness, and quality of work.
Qualifications
2-4 years of sewing experience required (will consider the right mix of skills in lieu of experience).
- Experience with
sewing complex patterns, piping, topstitching, zippers, pleats, and foam-backed materials .
- Proficiency in
measuring tools such as tape measures and rulers .
1 year of pattern-making experience preferred .
- Strong
attention to detail and ability to meet quality standards.
Consistent and timely attendance required .
- Ability to
follow directions and work independently .
- Ability to
understand and speak English .
